Match report

After the let down against Roselea the Hoops got back on track with a 5-1 win at Woodside against a young Glentanar outfit. It could and should have been several more than 5 but it was good just to get back to winning ways.

Paul had a couple of early chances but put one wide and one over, before we grabbed a 12th minute lead. A long free kick from Gaz found taylor in the box and his first touch knocked the ball square for Mark BARTLET to net from 6 yards. A minute later a long Glens throw caused panic in the visitors box with a shot having to be cleared off the line. A great overlap by Davidson saw his low cross fumbled by the home keeper but the ball hit Paul without him knowing much about it and rolled wide. With 18 mins played the lead was doubled when a fine cross from Ads found TAYLOR in the box and he rose to head high into the net via the post. Ten minutes later Glens grabbed a lifeline out of nothing when a quick throw caught the back four napping and no.10 ran on and slotted past Johnson. Leith volleyed well over before the two goal cushion was restored. Yeats long ball found ESSLEMONT and he was brought down as he ran into the box, with the striker picking himself up to send the keeper the wrong way from the spot. Wallace should have made it four with a free header from 4 yards but somehow headed it over.

Into the second half and Paul saw a shot saved with Taylor netting the rebound but an offside decision denied him the goal. 9mins into the half though number four arrived when Ads found WALLACE at the far post and he volleyed home. Leith tried again from distance but nearly hit the new Don crossing rather than the net and Wallace headed wide as the Hoops created chances. Taylor had the ball in the net again but once more offside cut short his celebrations. Ads blazed over when clean through as we continued to squander opportunities but with 20 to go Mark BARTLET latched onto a through ball and slotted in number five. Taylor twice and Mark once forced fine saves from the home keeper with Taylor also putting one wide to keep the score down and in amongst that Glens were unfortunate not to given a spot kick near the end which may have given them a consolation.
