Match report

The hoops maintained their unbeaten league start, but let another two points slip at Denmore. It all looked as if it was going to plan cruising at 2-0, but the loss of a soft goal before the break gave the home side hope and in truth we just didn't show at all in the second period and although Russell's late equaliser was a bit of a fluke they certainly could not be grudged getting their point.

The hoops made the perfect start by taking the lead in the 3rd minute. Gaz won the ball in midfield, played it to Wallace who in turn found NAPIER in space in the box. The striker took a touch and slid the ball past Otto for the opener. Tom Hutch saw a header comfortably held before Otto saved well from Napier. The second goal was coming and it arrived on 20 mins when Leith crosse to the far post and Gary McNAMEEE was there to head across the keeper into the far corner. Just before the half hour Ads took a great touch and rifled one in from 25 yards which Otto did well to parry wide, and from the resultant corner he saved well again from Gaz's downward header. Out of nothing Russell's grabbed a lifeline 10 mins before the break with a goal that really could have been prevented. An outswinging corner to the edge of the box saw Mitchell given acres of space to head the ball goalwards. Two home attackers had even more space in the six yard box and it was McDONALD who flicked the ball in to bring the home side back into the game.

HT: 1-2

If the hoops had the first half it was Russell's who had the second. Rennie and McDonald both passed up early chances, with Andy also holding an effort from Hardie. The visitors were struggling to keep any meaningful possession and were not creating much going forward at this stage. Taylor came off the bench to add some more physical presence up top but service was lacking to the big striker. With the hoops not looking like adding to their tally it was really now a case of would they keep hold of the lead. With ten mins left the answer to that one was no, thanks to a freakish goal. HINKS collected the ball 25 yards out way out on the touch line. He fired the ball goalwards, only he will know if he meant it as a shot or cross, but it deceived Andy and dropped into the net to level things. Moments later Taylor had the ball in the Russell's net but the linesman's flag denied him the goal with Davidson at the other end seeing a shot well blocked by Andy and the points were shared.
