Dyce made the best possible start to this game, with a ball played into the path of Mark BARTLET who placed it past the Keeper to make it 1 – 0 within minutes of the whistle. Dufftown tried to get back into the game, but Dyce’s defence were having none of it, commanding their positions well.
As the game went on Dyce were at last playing some great football, something sorely lacking in recent games. Mark Bartlet was to have the ball in the back off the net again, only for the referee to blow for a foul on Dufftown’s keeper. Dyce weren’t to be denied again for much longer, with a free kick on the edge of Dufftown’s 18-yard box which A McNamee stepped up to take, only succeeding in hitting the wall before landing at the feet of Steve BARTLET who struck a great ball into the back off the net for his first of the day and Dyce’s 2nd. As the game went on Dyce were assuming more control and a shot by A McNamee was cleared off the line only to find Steve BARTLET who made no mistake in scoring his second the Blue and White Hoop’s 3rd.
HT: Dyce 3 – 0 Dufftown
Dufftown came out fighting in the second half and tried hard to take the game to Dyce but the home side’s midfield always seemed in control. As the half went on there were opportunities for the visitors as Dyce were perhaps caught sleeping, but Dufftown had nobody who could take any advantage.
Dyce found there pace again and stepped it up a gear and could been up 4 or 5 but for the crossbar and Dufftown’s No. 1. The management were forced to make some tactical changes, introducing Esslemont for Slivers and Dick for G McNamee. The changes certainly paid off as ESSLEMONT got the ball following a rebound from the keeper and made no mistake to put it in the back of the net for 4 - 0.
As the game went on Dufftown seemed to have no more left in the tank and just before the final whistle Dick took a piece of the action when a great ball was played in by A. McNamee and DICK made no mistake by scoring his first of the season and Dyce’s 5th and that’s was how it would finish.
