Match report

A warm, sunny autumnal day greeted the Blue & White Hoops at Glenury park, both teams having faced a struggle for any form this season, making the 3 points a must for either side.

The homesteaders were to start the game brighter and had the best of the early play, but it was Dyce with the ball in the net first, when the Stoney keeper made a hash of clearing his lines and robbed by A McNamee, but with the ball nestled in the back of the net, the play was pulled back for what was preceived to be an earlier off-side decision.

It took only until the 7th minute for the home side to assume pole position however, too much space granted to ARMSTRONG, who managed to shrug off Barclay as he headed goalward and calmly slotted the ball under the onrushing Johnston. 1-0.

2mins later and Barclay played a ball neatly inside to Leith, who slotted a superb pass into the path of Wallace, but with a one on one situation, his first touch proved too heavy and was collected well by the keeper.

A speculative cross C*M short from distance was next to test Johnston in the Dyce goal, but he easily picked the ball out from under the cross-bar as the home side kept up the best of the pressure.

Minutes later Johnston was called to action again, Stoney having two shots in a passage of box play, which saw the Dyce keeper save the first with his legs and the second parried at short distance to ensure the deficit remained at one solitary goal.

Next chance was to fall to Adam McNamee, a long goal-kick was failed to be cleared by the home defence allowing Adam a sight of goal, but his shot only went agonisingly past the upright as the Blue & White Hoops were beginning to find their feet in the match.

Chances were to follow for Wallace (over the bar) and A McNamee (past the post) as the visitors sougt to get back on level terms, which was to happen in the 32nd minute, a long throw saw Wallace challenge for a header and the ball dropped nicely for SILVERS, who from 10yards out, took it first time and lashed the ball into the roof of the net. 1-1.

A couple of half chances later and WALLACE was to be through one on one with the keeper in an identical position to his first, following a long free-kick over the top, this time his touch was sublime and he calmly slotted past the keeper to put Dyce ahead. 1-2.

Wallace was to finish the half with another chance, after a great ball in from Barclay, but the home No1 was alert to block any chance.

HT: 1-2.

The wind had certainly got up for the start of the 2nd period, favouring the home side and making conditions a little more testing for the second 45mins.

Stoney were to start stronger and in balance had the majority of the possession, but the early 2nd half action saw little real chances created.

S Bartlet replaced Esslemont for the Dyce sides's first change and minutes later it was the home side that continued the scoring, ARMSTRONG scoring his 2nd following a corner, which needed little more than a touch over the line. 2-2.

Mathews was then to replace Silvers and it was Mathews who cut in side neatly and released a shot from distance, only narrowly missing the target, before Leith was then to see a strike go high and wide as the hoops still struggled to get any real foot-hold in the second half.

Some intense pressure around the 18 yard line was then to result in a testing cross from Stonehaven, which Dyce's Davidson rose to head clear, only managing to test the reflexes of his own keeper, with Matt touching the ball over the bar.

S Bartlet was to see a shot come back off the keeper's legs and at the other end Stonehaven had a glorious chance, following a long ball over the top, left by the Dyce defence, but the stonehaven striker's shot was saved excellently by Johnston, who was well off his line, but dived well to retain parity in the scores.

Dyce provided a great bit of inter-play up the right and the subsequent cross was met with a strike by Taylor, which had the keeper beatedn all ends up, only to be thwarted by the cross-bar.

With a couple of minutes ago, the three points were secured following some clumsy Dyce defending, Yeats catching a Stoney player and seeing the referee point immediately to the spot. A calmly struck penalty, dispatched to the bottom corner by COYLE, gave the rooted Johnston no chance.

On the second half showing it was no surprise for Dyce to leave with no points, a disappointing result again and one that puts added pressure with a lowly league position.

FT: 3-2.
