Match report
Referee blows whistle at 2 pm and gets the game started at a sunny but cold and windy Links Park.
2 mins in and Dyce easily lose possession in midfield and after a few fortunate bounces Roselea striker makes Dyce keeper Johnson make a good save and ball breaks and resulting shot is cleared off the line. 9 mins in great ball from Tom Hutchison puts Adam McNamee clear but he fires weakly into the arms of the Montrose keeper. Dyce cross into box in 14 mins and ball is cleared for a corner. From the corner Steve BARTLET glances the ball at near post and guides it into the net at the back post 1-0 Dyce.
22 mins gone sees Ryan Wallace break into the box but the Montrose keeper dives at his feet and saves. 24 mins in Dyce defender leaves ball to run out realising it’s never going out and passes it back to keeper. Instead of taking a touch it’s sliced high into the air and drops at penalty spot where Thomson of Montrose rolls it into the net 1-1.
In 30th min Dyce lose ball on the left wing resulting in a cross which goes over Dyce defenders head and Roselea’s Collier lobs Johnson to make it 2-1.
35th min great run from Montrose number 19 sees him fire into side netting from about 8 yards out. The half runs out with a series of niggly fouls and broken play. After a bright opening 15 mins from Dyce it was fairly even, with Montrose just edging it and the score line confirms.
2nd half start and about 1 min in a 20-yard strike from Steven BARTLET finds Dyce back on level terms 2-2
Match is getting scrappier now and lots of individual tussles getting a bit physical makes the reef produce a flurry of yellow cards
In 19th minute of 2nd half after a tousy midfield period of play, a quick break results in a corner for Montrose. The corner is swung into the Dyce keeper who elects to punch but just gets a slight touch of the ball and knocks it up in the air a couple of Montrose headers later and the ball ends in the back of the net from Stephen and its 3-2 to Montrose. 3 minutes later the ball is played up the Montrose right. The winger skips past the Dyce full back and drives into the Dyce penalty box. A great cutback and a good finish from Hester see Montrose lead 4-2.
3 mins later, the wind and sleet are on now and a long ball sees the Dyce defender wait for the ball it shoots off the surface past him and the Montrose winger who is already running at full speed whips the ball into the goalmouth. Hutchinson is caught wrong side of the forward leans in and the player goes down seeing the Ref pointing to the spot it’s a penalty. Kick converted by Hester for his 2nd of the day and it’s now 5-2. The remainder of the game became stop start as the ref blew for one foul after another.
Dyce certainly had chances especially in the opening 15 mins of the 2nd half but a mixture of poor finishing and delicious cost them in the end.
