Culter v Dyce Juniors FC

The hoops closed out a disappointing 2018 on a brighter note, by extending the unbeaten run to five matches after a goal-less stalemate at Crombie Park against Culter. The only victor on the day was the howling gale blowing around which made good football an impossibility. The game saw very little goalmouth action to excite the spectators but no criticism can be made of any players, who all gave 100% effort in the awful conditions.
 
Culter had the first chance of the match when a far post ball fell to Horne but Andy did well to block his effort. At the other end Steven B’s lay off found Wallace and he crossed to the far post where Ads got his head on the ball but it was well blocked and put out for a fruitless corner. Just before the break possession was gifted to Duff, who in turn found Horne in space but this time he blazed his shot over and the teams went in at half time level. The rest of us ran for some heat, refreshments and a damn fine pie.
 
The hoops started the second half well, despite playing against the ‘breeze’. A neat build up ended with Leith having a chance but ex Dyce keeper Rossco saved well. The resulting corner caused a scramble in the home box but they managed to eventually hack the ball clear. Culter’s Dunbar found space on the hour and did what a few others should have maybe done earlier. He hit one first time from 30 yards and with the wind behind it had a fair bit of pace on it but Andy made a fine save tipping it over. Seconds later at the other end Ads tried his luck with a free kick which crept inches wide with Rossco beaten. Sub Masson had Culter’s last chance when he found space in the box but his shot found the side net late on, but in truth a winning goal for either side would have been harsh on the other and a share of the spoils was a fair outcome.
