It was a bright and windy day at the Meadows and Dyce were fired up after the last result and boosted with the squad addition of Magnus Barclay.
Ellon kicked off and the first chance came to A McNamee but his effort only saw the side netting. Just after that Coyle had a good chance, and should have scored, but hit it straight at the Ellon keeper. Dyce seemed to be well on top when M Bartlet found himself one on one with the keeper but was foiled by the home stopper again. Dyce were playing some good football and done everything but score. The game was constantly being broken up by fouls against Dyce some of the referee’s decisions were strange to say the least . This resulted in Hutchison getting the first yellow of the game. Again, Dyce were left with only the keeper to beat but could not find the net and Ellon went straight up the other end and made no mistake with their first attempt at goal in the 35th minute, for the opening goal of the game. Yellows were to follow for Ryan Dick and Steve Bartlet before the half-time whistle was blown.
Ellon 1 – 0 Dyce
We had just had the chance to return from the half-time refreshments when Ellon struck again for number 2, with a very tidy finish to beat Pennycook. It was going to be an uphill task for Dyce now, but a glimmer of hope arrived when Wallace was taken down in the box. The referee pointed immediately to the spot and M Bartlet placed before making no mistake firing into the back of the net. It was to take only take a further 3 minutes for Dyce to get back level when Scott Burnett rifled a shot past the home keeper for his first goal for Dyce. All looked good for Dyce but in the 63rd minute for some strange reason the now extremely erratic referee gave the softest of penalties to Ellon and they made no mistake in pushing ahead again at 3-2. Dyce were still creating the best chances and when S Bartlet fouled, he received a 2nd yellow and marching orders, reducing us to 10 men. No matter how hard they pressed, Dyce could not find a way past the Ellon defence and cue the referee again when in the 79th Minute A McNamee gave away a foul which saw him also receive a second yellow and leaving the Blue and White Hoops to finish the game still trying to get back on level terms but reduced to 9 men.
