The hoops travelled to a sunny Downfield, with Harp having a ground sharing arrangement there whilst their new home is under construction. Skipper Mark was missing, along with Gogs, Adam Morrison, Dicky, Mags Barclay, Jason Coyle and Scott B. Youngsters Jamie Hay and Clark Mackay-Scott made their first starts for the club along with Paul Napier, signed in midweek from Huntly. In the end the lads did incredibly well to come from 3-0 down with half an hour to go and turn things round into a 4-3 win.
The hoops looked bright early on, getting into some dangerous positions but the final ball just wasn’t there. With 14 minutes played Harp took the lead out of nothing. Yeats and hay couldn’t clear the ball at the edge of the box and it fell to McDONALD and he slotted low past Reid for the opener. The home side had another couple of chances but did double their lead on the half hour when a low shot was well parried by Reid but McDONALD was on hand to tap in the rebound from a couple of yards for his and his side’s second. The remainder of the half saw plenty effort from both sides but not further scoring.
Tom Hutch had been introduced in the first half, and fellow subs Steven Bartlet and Mikey Taylor were soon also on but 9 minutes into the second period Harp were further ahead when RAMSAY found space at an angle 8 yards out and he placed his shot into the far corner and it looked like game over. However on the hour we grabbed a lifeline. A Harp passback was headed up by the home keeper and as it was dropping into the net he palmed the ball over. The hoops were screaming for an indirect free kick but the officials had a chat and decided that it would be a corner. It worked in our favour though as the ball was flicked on to Tom HUTCH at the far post and he nodded in. Six minutes later it was game on, when Napier swung over a great free kick and Steven BARTLET thumped a 10 yard volley into the top corner. Within four minutes the tie was all square, with Leitho swinging in a cross from the left and Tom HUTCH rose again to head in his second. The visitors could now see the game was there for the taking and the comeback was completed in the 86th minute when the ball was worked well to Mikey TAYLOR and his 16 yard shot deceived the home keeper and crept over the line to complete an amazing turnaround and set up a quarter final tie away to Broughty Athletic.
