A second half surge saw Broughty book a place in the semi-finals...

The Hoops travelled to Craigie Park to take on East Super League leaders Broughty on a scorcher of a day in Dundee. The bookies suggested the visitors chances of progressing were between zero and nil percent, but despite missing several players and another two having to go off injured a spirited hoops display saw the visitors need a suspiciously offside goal with quarter of an hour left and a last minute penalty to see them through. The team lined up with Mags, Scott B, Jason, Gogs, Jamie H, Adam M and Wallace all missing.

The early stages of the match were quite cagey, with both sides having their share of possession but neither keeper really being troubled. The hoops were dealt another injury blow in the 20th minute when Mike T landed awkwardly and hurt his knee, and being replaced by STEVEN BA. Within 4 minutes Steven had made his mark with a quite brilliant goal. A high ball was played to him 20 yards out with his back to goal, he controlled it, played a couple of keepie-uppies to beat his man and volleyed into the corner with a cracking finish. The remainder of the half followed a similar pattern but the visitors confidence seemed to be growing and by half time were worth the 1-0 lead.
Into the second period and we expected Broughty to attack early and they did just that and were level in 54 minutes. SCOTT was allowed to cut inside too easily but when he did he found the far corner with a fine shot from the edge of the box. On the hour mark another injury forced the hoops into another change, this time big Andy wasn’t able to continue in the sticks and young Kyle came on to make his debut in goal at just 16 years old. Despite Broughty attacking more now Kyle wasn’t being troubled too much but with quarter of an hour to go the hosts took the lead. A shot from the edge of the box was parried by Kyle and the ball fell to APPERE who looked suspiciously offside and he netted the rebound. Despite the loud away protests the flag stayed down and the goal stood. The hoops appeared to be running out of legs late on and in the final minute the home side clinched their spot in the semi finals when Kyle was penalised for a trip in the box and SKELLY calmly slotted home the resultant penalty.
