The Hoops adventure in the Scottish Cup came to an end after a narrow defeat to Glasgow side Yoker Athletic at IMP. In truth it wasn’t a great spectacle for the 350+ crowd, with a strong wind blowing down the pitch making it difficult for both sides.
The Hoops started the stronger and pinned Yoker back forcing a series of corners which ultimately came to nothing. We were dealt an early blow when Liam McDonald was forced off with suspected concussion after a collision near the half way line, and it wouldn’t be the first head knock change of the afternoons proceedings. Yoker went close at the other end but Bell made a great save, before we passed up a great opportunity to take the lead. A visiting defender couldn’t deal with a long ball and young Lyall Keir latched on to it and lobbed it over the advancing keeper. To many it looked like the ball was bouncing into the far corner but it may have being going wide and Declan Milne raced in to make sure but from close range with the goal gaping he lifted the ball over the bar.
The second half continued to be scrappy, with the Hoops now playing into the gale. Bell had to get down quickly to smother a loose ball and whilst doing so took a boot in the head. He played on after treatment and midway through the half the visitors broke the deadlock. A simple through ball found Gallacher and he advanced to slot the ball past a static and groggy looking Bell. Soon afterwards the keeper was taken off with big Andy replacing him. As much as the lads battled away we failed to trouble the Yoker custodian enough with very little more goalmouth action and no further scoring seeing the away side through to the last four.
