The Hoops kicked of the Premier League campaign with a derby game against neighbours Stoneywood Parkvale. The home line up was much changed from last season with a number of youngsters taking to the field and they took the game to the visitors early on and were rewarded in the 18th minute when the ball broke to Jack WALKER and he let rip with a 30 yarder that flew into the top corner giving the visiting keeper no chance. Stoneywood had ex Dycer Dean Still leading the line for them but he was forced off with an injury, before the Hoops were dealt a blow in 36 minutes when something was said to Gui, who replied. The far side linesman called over the whistler and told him to order Gui off. No further comment will be made on that one. The half ended with us still on top but there was no further scoring.
The second half followed much the same pattern, with us having the majority of possession but not being able to kill off the game despite creating a couple of half chances whilst Morgan in the home goal wasn’t really called into action. With just a one goal lead it could have been a very nervy last ten minutes but with that amount of time left young Robbie Campbell got the ball wide in the box and managed to cut in and his shot found the bottom corner with the aid of a slight deflection to seal the win and make it three out of three to start the season along with three clean sheets.
