After two successive single goal defeats the hoops got back on track with an excellent victory against a Banchory team that had made an impressive unbeaten start to the season.
We showed our attacking intent from the off with Mark B heading home after 3 minutes but the far side flag was already up. Baillie volleyed wide before Saints opening chance was also put wide in the 21st minute. Barron put one narrowly over before Andy parried well at the other end to thwart the home side. On the half hour there were a couple of penalty claims for challenges in the Bunkry box, one having a little more strength than the rather weak other one, and between the two Leitho cracked a 25 yarder off the post with Salmon beaten. Eight minutes before the break we broke the deadlock when a corner was half cleared to Leitho. He found leading scorer BAILLIE and he cut in and thumped the ball into the far corner for 15 yards. A good three man move set up the same player but this time ex Dycer Salmon saved well. Saints nearly drew level just on half time when Andy misjudged a through ball the home side couldn’t take advantage and the ball was cleared.
Saints had the first effort of the second half but it went well over before a 53rd minute square ball from Baillie found skipper MARK B on the penalty spot and he took one touch before firing into the bottom corner. Andy parried another shot as Saints tried to get back into the game but the hoops looked the more likely and sub Wallace should have made it three when he was put clean through by Mackie but he scooped his shot over. With 5 minutes left though the third goal did arrive, Baillie again with the assist as he crossed from the left and this time WALLACE found the target with a close range volley to round off the scoring and seal an excellent three points.
