The hoops advanced into the second round of the Regional Cup with a comfortable win against New Elgin at IMP. The early signs were positive with Mackie seeing a 25 yarder well held by visiting keeper Dey. 7 mins in and the keeper was in action again to deny Muttley who got in a volley at the far post. It was turning into the Dey show as he made another great save from a close range Tom Hutch header. However with 12 minutes on the clock he couldn’t stop BARRON from scoring, the attacker netting from close range after the ball was headed back across goal to him. Two minutes later the second goal arrived. MACKIE won the ball 25 yards out and strolled through to slot into the bottom corner. Baillie hit one wide and Gaz headed over but just after the half hour it was three. Mackie played a through ball to BAILLIE and he beat his man and finished well. The striker rounded Dey a minute later and the ball fell to Leitho who looked certain to net but he lifted his shot over, the Baillie fired wide with the final effort of the half.
The second half saw less goalmouth action as the pace of play slowed down with the hoops seemingly intent to sit on the lead. Mackie headed a Burnett cross wide then Gaz had the ball in the net but whistler De Sykes made an offside call. Difficult to see if Gaz was on or off but a tough job for the man in the middle to decide when there were no assistants. Ads saw a shot take a slight deflection which Dey did well to block with his feet, but a fourth goal duly arrived in the 78th minute, BAILLIE getting another with a well taken finish. Ads made a late run into the box and rounded Dey to net, but like his brother’s effort earlier he was deemed to be offside and it was disallowed and there would be no further scoring.
