Dyce Women welcomed league contenders Huntly FC Women to Ian Mair Park this afternoon for a North SWFL fixture in sunny relatively calm conditions after the adverse weather and gales of recent weeks.
With over half the Dyce Women squad aged 18 years of age or under, they stood up to the challenge of their vastly experienced opponents in the early exchanges. Unfortunately after a solid start, Dyce conceded 2 quick fire goals around the 20 minute mark: a penalty and a fierce shot from just inside the Dyce penalty area, after an interception.
To their credit, the youthful Dyce Women side kept their composure and got back into the game just before half time. Our youngest player, Evi Bereznaka, fired in a low cross and lurking as every good forward should, between the sticks, was Erin MacDonald on debut for the Club to fire home.
HT - Dyce Women 1-2 Huntly FC Women
The 2nd half was a tousy affair, with little in the way of clearcut chances to either team. That was until around the 75 minute mark, when the bravery of Dyce Women was rewarded with a deserved equaliser.
And it was a carbon copy of the 1st! Evi Bereznaka again fired in a low cross across the 6 yard box from the right and lurking again, but this time at the back post was Erin MacDonald to finish it with a single touch for her brace.
The Dyce Women saw the game out for a well deserved point.
Every single member of the Dyce Women squad (including those that did not get on today) can be immensely proud, as they have been a credit to themselves (and the youngsters to their parents) for their effort and listening this week.
Next up in a fortnight (weather permitting) is a game against Westdyke Thistle. Further details to follow.......
