Dyce Women 2 - 0 Stonehaven Ladies

Excellent win for the women

On a cold wintry afternoon, Stonehaven Ladies made the short journey north on the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route sitting 3 points above Dyce Women for this league fixture and they started the stronger of the two teams, having the better of the early exchanges.

In 11 minutes, O’Hagan needed sustained treatment after a heavy challenge.

Evie Bereznaka burst free on 18 minutes with Dyce’s first real chance, but didn’t get her head up and the danger was extinguished by Stonehaven. Two minutes later there was confusion in the Dyce defence and they were lucky not to concede an opener.

With the match going back and forward, end to end, Evie Bereznaka was causing Stonehaven problems and had a shot from 25 yards palmed away by the Stonehaven goalkeeper. Then 5 minutes later, she was played in by Kennedy, but the shot came to nothing.

In 32 minutes, Stonehaven were awarded a free kick wide on the right and attempted a direct cross shot, however, it sailed harmlessly over.

A minute later, O’Hagan was subjected to another heavy challenge and had to be substituted. In 35 minutes, Evie Bereznaka had an effort cleared off the line following a corner from her sister Marika and shortly thereafter, the sisters combined to good effect again, but were foiled.

HT ~ Dyce Women 0-0 Stonehaven Ladies

Stonehaven started the half fast, just as they had in the first and Sinclair in the Dyce goal made a good save. Dyce then went up the park and the Bereznaka sisters combined well, but were foiled.

Not for long though, as in 55 minutes, Dyce Captain Marika Bereznaka got the ball in space 25 yards out in the left channel and her shot sailed high over the Stonehaven keeper and dipped in to the net, to give Dyce the lead.

Soon afterwards Gibson got free and had an effort on goal. On the hour mark, Dyce were reduced to 10, when Evie Bereznaka was shown red.

This spurred Stonehaven on and Sinclair again saved well from another direct free kick. In spite of being a woman down, Dyce continued to threaten and Sharp was unlucky with a shot after good work down the right.

With a minute to go, O’Hagan had bravely come back on as Dyce tried to hold what they had and after a throw in down the left side by Grieve she forced a corner. Captain Bereznaka took it perfectly and O’Hagen rose 6 yards out at the near post and her header flew high into the opposite postage stamp corner for a hard earned and deserved win.

FT - Dyce Women 2-0 Stonehaven Ladies

SUMMARY - A superb backs to the wall win, with plenty learning points; sees the team jump above our opponents on goal difference. Another great performance by Amber Cameron, with a special mention to her central defensive partner, Natalie Cartney and to Zara O’Hagan for coming back on. Next game scheduled to be Arbroath Women away in a week’s time.
