Arbroath Women 10 - 1 Dyce Women

Syd Birnie3 Feb - 08:10

Tough, Tough Day for the Blue and White Hoops

Our women's team made the journey south on, for Arbroath, a relatively wind-free day in midwinter to face the home side who have significantly strengthened in the last week or so, with 2 signings with Scottish Women's Premier League experience; and it was to prove the difference between the sides.

The 1st of them, McFadyen, fresh from scoring 6 goals last weekend for the home side, showed her intent in only 2 minutes, with a lobbed shot that flew narrowly past the Dyce goal. In 4 minutes, the 2nd of Arbroath's signings, Robb, who was only unveiled on Friday night, scored with a free back post header. And that was to pretty much prove to be the story of the match.

Dyce Women were very spirited, however, they were no match for their considerably more experienced rivals, as Arbroath's touch, passing, movement and speed belied their league position. McFadyen scored twice more for Arbroath, the 2nd being a penalty as the home team raced to a 3-0 lead by 37 minutes.

On 41 minutes, Dyce were rewarded after determined play from O'Hagan won the ball back and although heavily outnumbered, she got her shot away from outside the box and it flew high into the net.

HT - Arbroath FC Women 3-v-1 Dyce Women

Arbroath started the 2nd half showing their intent with their Captain hitting the Dyce crossbar within 2 minutes of the restart. 5 minutes later, Robb fired a shot high over the crossbar and to everyone’s surprise, the referee awarded a penalty and McFadyen got her hat-trick.

Arbroath took charge thereafter and Robb completed her hat-trick and McFadyen went on to score her 2nd hat-trick; with a solitary other Arbroath player adding to the scoring before the final whistle. It has to be said that Davidson in the Dyce goal pulled off several fantastic saves during the game too.

FT - Arbroath FC Women 10-v-1 Dyce Women

SUMMARY - A tough day at the office for our young side, where they came up against clinical Premier League standard finishing by a vastly experienced side, with only a couple of teenagers in the Arbroath squad. Hopefully a day of learning about how to do things better
